Dinner provided by CARMELA’S TACOS
–$7 Taco plate includes: 2 chicken or carne asada tacos served with rice,
beans, salsa, guacamole and a drink. Additional tacos are $2 each.

Week of 11/13/12 – Honey Horse

Homework Assignments:

  1. Dot-to-Dot – “Honey Horse” – Continue practicing the sound and letter :Hh”. Don’t forget to color Honey!
  2. Printing Practice – “Hh” – Practice printing the upper and lower case letter.
  3. Phonics – Color the pictures that begin with the sound “H”.
  4. Phonics – Say the name of each picture. If it begins with the “Hh” sound, write Hh on the lines provided.
  5. Phonics – Rhyming – Glue matching rhyming words together.
  6. Color Words – Read the sentence and color the picture the correct color.
  7. Math – Count and write the correct number. Color the row that has more.
  8. Math – Draw a line to show 1:1 correspondence. Color the row that has less.
  9. Reading Diary – Thank you for taking the time to read with your child each night!
  10. Sight Word Practice – Please write three sentences that include one or more of the sight words (I, see, a, my, to, like).
  11. Printing Practice –Please remember to trace your whole name then write it four more times. Thank you.

This Week in the Classroom:

  • Language Arts/Phonics – This week we are working with the letter “V”. Vincent Vampire Bat is the Zoo Phonics character.
  • We re finishing up with our 1st trimester testing. Please make sure to get a good nigh sleep and have a healthy breakfast to fuel the brain.
  • We continue to learn about Pilgrims, Native Americans and the First Thanksgiving.

Other Important Information:

  • Parent Conferences begin the week of December 10th. I am looking forward to meeting with each of you. I will send home a separate note with the day and time of your scheduled conference.
  • Mark your calendars
    November 19th – 23rd Thanksgiving Vacation – NO SCHOOL
    December 10th-21st – Kindergarten Conferences – All students are on Early Bird Schedule (8:20am – 12:20).
  • We have Library every Friday; please remind your child that they are to return their library book on Thursday so they can check out another book during our visit.
  • PTA Membership – I am so excited – room 9 is a little above 50% (1st class to reach 100% participation will get an ice cream party). It’s not too late to join PTA. Membership envelopes are available in the front office or online – download form.

  6. Math – Harvest Count – color, count and write the number in the box.
  7. Math – One-to-one Correspondence – Count and write the number – Color set that has more.
  8. Math – Graphing – count and color one square for each animal.
  9. Reading Diary – Thank you for taking the time to read with your child each night!
  10. Printing Practice –Please remember to trace your whole name then write it four more times. Thank you.

This Week in the Classroom:

  • Language Arts/Phonics – This week we are working with the sound the letter “Hh”. Honey Horse is the Zoo Phonics Character. Ask your child to find things around the house that being with the “h” sound.
  • We will be spending the next two weeks learning about the Pilgrims, Native Americans, and Thanksgiving.
  • We have been learning how to read color words in class. For extra practice at home, I recommend writing the color words on flashcards and reviewing these with your child.

Other Important Information:

  • We are starting our 1st trimester testing this week. Please make sure your child is getting enough sleep and is having a healthy breakfast to fuel their brain!
  • For the last few weeks I have been sending home short stories that the children are reading in class. These stories are from our language arts series and contain high frequency site words that we are working on. When a new book is sent home, please place it in a plastic bag so your child can keep them all together. When your child is reading the book , make sure and remind them to place their fingers under the words so they can track left to right and top to bottom. Thanks for your continued help at home!
